The One Where I Got a New Job! May 18, 2008

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks.  The trip to Texas was nice, but it was really good to get home.  We got home on Saturday and I had an interview on Tuesday for a new job.  I got offered that job on Wednesday and will start it on June 2nd.  YAY!  I will be a Student Services Manager on the Columbia campus. 

I usually supervise people just because I’m bossy – it’s not actually in my job description.  Now I will supervise three people and get paid for it.  It’s a great next step for me career-wise.  Also, did I mention no more 2.5 hour commute each day and no more 120 mile round-trip gas bill?  YAY indeed!  However, I’ll definitely miss my co-workers and students in Aiken, but it’s time for a new experience… 

Thursday I had Dissertation Bootcamp Reunion and I may finally know which direction I want to go with my research now.  Friday we had an all day off-campus retreat for my current job.  Then I went to the house in North Augusta for some more painting (I forgot my camera, but I’ll post an update soon).  I did that Friday night and most of Saturday (except for Saturday evening when we went to dinner at Jenny’s house – a member of my Dissertation committee).  Today I’m getting ready for my presentation at the NACADA Conference which will be today thru Tuesday.  I’m also hoping to work on my book review that is due June 1.  After Tuesday, I’ll be back at work like normal for a week and a half to wrap everything up before leaving. 

That’s it for now… I’m too busy for stuff like this!  I’m sure that means I’ll write more soon…

The One Where I’m in Texas May 4, 2008

Howdy, y’all!

I say that because I’m in Texas.  You can say “howdy” here and get away with it.  I’ve already been shopping and spent way too much money.  But, I do have 4 cute new pairs of shoes and some cute tops to show for it.  I also finally got a long-overdue pedicure.  Ahhh… of course, I’ve already messed up the paint slightly on one nail, but that’s par for my course.

Speaking of par, I suck at Wii golf.  In fact, I suck at Wii in general.  My husband beat me soundly at pretty much every game.  Except for one – where you ride cows.  Yea, that’s the one you want to win. 

I’m off to finish my grading so it’s not hanging over my head the rest of the trip. 

The One With Renovations, Part 1 May 2, 2008

I had my own home before I got married and now I rent it out.  So I guess I still actually HAVE it, I just don’t live in it.  Now I live with my husband.  That’s what you’re supposed to do when you get married, right?

I most recently rented it to my brother, but he and his family moved to Pittsburgh.  So, I’ve been doing some work on it for the new renters who plan to move in on June 1.  YAY!  Here is a video for ya…

Hello!

Some of you (okay, maybe 2 people) may have read my old blog.  Some of you may have never known it existed.  But it’s a new dawn, a new day… and I’m feeling good.  I thought I’d try WordPress… we’ll see how it goes.
